On November 9, 2009 Google announced an agreement to acquire AdMob, a mobile display ad technology provider, for $750 million. This acquisition will enhance Google’s existing expertise and technology in mobile advertising, while also giving advertisers and publishers more choice in this growing new area.

The deal will bring new innovation and competition to mobile advertising, and will lead to more effective tools for creating, serving, and analyzing emerging mobile ads formats.

This deal will benefit developers, publishers, and advertisers by improving the performance of mobile advertising, and will provide users with more free or low-cost mobile apps.

The mobile advertising space will remain highly competitive, with more than a dozen mobile ad networks. The deal is similar to mobile advertising acquisitions that AOL, Microsoft, and Yahoo have made in the past two years.

Mobile advertising is a rapidly growing and competitive space, and Google and AdMob are currently specializing in different areas. Though Google offers many forms of mobile advertising, its focus to date has been on mobile search ads, while AdMob’s focus has been mobile display ads and in-application ads.

I have been using WordPress for more than three years now and I am really loving it. WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.

As they say WordPress is what you use when you want to work with your blogging software, not fight it. WordPress started in 2003 with a single bit of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing and with fewer users than you can count on your fingers and toes. Since then it has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on millions of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.

WordPress is an Open Source project, which means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it and you can be part of the community. WordPress users includes : people,Number10, The New york times just to mention a few.

There are a number of different ways in which you can get involved in the testing process, and each way is suited for each persons skill set and comfort level. First of all, you can join the wp-testers mailing list to keep up to date with the testing progress and to discuss things with the other testers. Secondly, you can head over to the Trac ticketing system and either create tickets for bugs you find or use some of the useful searches to look for patches that need testing or that need someone to try and reproduce the issue.

visit www.wordpress.org for more information.

This is my first Bar Camp and I am hoping that it is going to be the first of many. it was held at The Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence (AITI). The Insitute was built in honoured of the former General Secretary of the United Nations Kofi Annan.

The vision of the Insitute is to be the Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology for West Africa.

I never expected the programme to start late, but I was wrong, I had to wait for about an hour and half before it started. Because I registered on the web site before coming, I had my name tag waiting for me on the front desk. Hearsay says about 300 people registered for the Barcamp. I guess the other 299 people didn’t show up.

There were sticky nametags for people and various A4-size tags for labeling things. During the first talk slot, a group of people tagged Ghanaian bloggers shared their experience on blogging in Ghana.

Unfortunately I had to travel to the Ashanti Region so I can only guess what happened next.

I received My official email from the barcamp 08 Ghana committee. It is as follows :
Greetings, We are all excited about BarCamp Ghana 08 on Monday the 22nd of
December. Thank you for RSVPing, it gives us an indication of how many people
to plan and budget for. BarCamp Ghana 08 would start at 8:15am at the Kofi
Annan Centre of Excellence for ICT, located near the Parliament/State House.
Please make it a point to be early because we’ll be giving away BarCamp Ghana
T-shirts at a small donation (GhC 5) and we have a limited amount. We have an
agenda that runs till 6pm so it is imperative to start on time so that
everything runs smoothly. Water would be provided all day as well as some
small foods during the networking/lunch period. If you want to organize a
breakout session concerning a topic, for example, making better Ghanaian
movies or educational reform, start preparing. We’ll have a leader and a
note-taker for each session. Bring a laptop if you have to present/show
something or a pen drive to borrow someone else’s. We have about 132
registered participants and are expecting more. Tell your friends and
colleagues to RSVP on the website, registration is still open. See you on
Monday, Tsooboi!

What is a BarCamp? Wikipedia’s description is “BarCamp is an international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.
