Ghana’s stock market saw another decline as the GSE All-Share Index shed 1.42% to 6,086.45 points from last week’s closing index of 6,131.70 points.Currently the market has a year-to-date change of -41.65% and an average market P/E of 13.38. The total market capitalization now stands at GH‼15,759.42 million which is a slight drop from the previous week’s value of GH¢15,795.02 million. Shares totaling 821,878 were transacted on the GSE during the week under review and the figure represents a 69.59% decline from the figure recorded last week. However, the total market value went up by more than three times from GH¢0.62 million for last week to GH¢2.17 million for this week. There were three gainers and three losers during the week.
The local currency urged up against the dollar for the week by 0.36% and had an average exchange rate of GH¢1.4498 at the end of the week. On the other hand, the cedi slipped against the euro and the pound by 3.58% and 1.45% respectively. At the end of the week the cedi was averagely exchanging for the pound at GH¢2.3732 while a euro went for GH¢2.1675.
On the treasury and bond market, both the 91-Day and 182-Day Treasury instruments interest rates dropped by 0.04 and 0.11 percentage points to 25.86% and 28.76% in that order as compared to the previous week’s interest rates. The 1-Year Note and the 2-Year Fixed Rate Note interest rates are still quoted at 21.00% and 25.50% correspondingly. A total of GH¢160.00 million was offered for the financial instruments and it represents a 23.08% rise from the amount offered in the previous week’s auction.
In corporate bulletin, Trust Bank Limited (The Gambia) has announced an interim dividend of D0.45 (US$0.02) per share in respect of the 2009 financial year. Shareholders registered in the books of the company by October 27, 2009 will qualify for the dividend which will be paid on November 4, 2009.
