Investing in your community is a wonderful way to give back to those who have helped support your life all these years. Volunteer groups and non-profit organizations do so much to help the communities that all of us are part of, but they can’t do it alone.
As successful members of the community, we have a responsibility to help those that are less fortunate and contribute to the common good. I feel this so strongly that it’s been a longstanding practice of mine to donate 30% of my time and income to charitable organization. I admit, that it has been very difficult, but every little bit truly helps when it comes to good work.
Christmas day was the day two of my friends decided to give back to the osu community. They organized a soup Kitchen for the children at Osu. The soup kitchen in the Presby School neighborhood reported a sharp increase in the number of parents bringing young children for free meals.
The programme was supposed to start at 12:00 GMT, but as at 13:00 GMT the programme hadn’t started solely because the publicity chief took money for publicizing the event and never did so. After this unfortunate betrayal by the publicity chief, the organizers decided to go the old fashion way, publicize it by word of mouth.
To our amazement, within thirty minutes we saw the children coming to the venue from all angles. It was nice to see that the old tricks still works in our technological age. The soup kitchen catered for nearly five hundred children including a few parents who came with their little babies.
The children showed their appreciation by dancing their heart out amidst playing games like musical chairs etc. By the close of the day you could feel that a life had been touched, what is more refreshing than that. God bless the twin sisters who made this possible.
